Departure from the Norm: Conventional Farming Games you Might’ve not Heard of!

Today’s topic is a little different from what we usually cover. We thought we’d take a step back and look at the gaming landscape as a whole and what a better way to start than with the most wholesome, beloved gaming genre there is — farming games.

Now, when we say farming games we really mean it! We’re not just talking about games that have farming mechanics but where farming takes the center stage! While many games have some sort of farming mechanic that’s not the topic for today.

Today we dive head first into the world of true farming games, where every bit of digital blood and sweat is spent on optimizing, broadening and improving your own farm.

Get ready to open your horizons, as some of these games aren’t as well known!

Fae Farm

Taking a page from well established games such as Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley, Phoenix Labs takes a fresh new fae spin on the usual farming game.

That’s right, fae! Just like something taken straight from Shakespear’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Fae Farm is a fresh and fantastical take on the standard farming game.

Customary farming games, the implementation of gardening, animal keeping and other country-side activities are well represented in this game. Although if you’re looking for romance mechanics (something not too unfamiliar to the genre) we’d suggest you look elsewhere.

Slime Rancher

Slime Rancher will inevitably get brought up in any conversation regarding farming games. Its unique blend of alien environments, farming, and resource management mechanics is something to behold.

Contrary to the more stereotypical farming games, in Slime Ranchers you don’t sow seed or reap crops. Instead, the player is tasked with collecting, breeding and upkeep slimes that all produce different materials used to upgrade your farm further.

My Time at Sandrock

Have you ever thought about setting up your home in a desert? Well neither did we! But that’s exactly what My Time at Sandrock is about!

While not your conventional farming game, it is quite similar to titles like Stardew Valley, which has become the poster child of farming games. In this game you are tasked with surviving in the harsh desert environment, where you need to acquire resources but also keep a keen eye on the ecological side of things as simply cutting down every tree in your wake could spell disaster for Sandrock.
